Calatrava wristwatch with dial in cloisonné enamel.
This limited edition with a dial in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel gives center stage to an African savannah elephant, one of the largest living terrestrial animals and now an endangered species. It is depicted in a landscape at sunset.
To create the contours of the animal, presented in silhouette, with its characteristically large ears and elongated tusks and the parasol- shaped outline of a gum acacia, the enameler used 38 cm of gold wire (0.45 g) measuring 0.1 x 0.4 mm in cross-section. The fiery glow of the sky and the first shadows of night were conjured up by a palette of transparent, opaque and opalescent enamels in 13 colors – with the subtle variations that make each of these little pictures a unique work of art. Each dial required 10 firings at a temperature of approximately 820°C.
The white-gold case is endowed with a sapphire-crystal back protected by a hinged dust cover, affording a private view of the caliber 240 ultra-thin self-winding movement.
