Pocket watch with back in miniature painting on enamel.
A famous painting by the French artist Gustave Courbet, depicting a stag brought down by a pack of hounds at a hunt (1867), inspired the decoration on the back of this unique piece in Grand Feu miniature painting on enamel finished with flux according to the Geneva method.
To reproduce in a few square centimeters this scene measuring about 3.5 m x 5 m in the original, the enameler built up his picture in small deft touches, combining 11 enamel colors, of which 7 are blended shades, made of finely ground metallic oxides mixed with rare oils. This procedure required 30 firings at temperatures ranging from 800°C to 830°C. The dial, in white enamel over white gold, presents white-gold applied Breguet numerals and white-gold hands. A labradorite cabochon (0.35 ct) decorates the crown.
This pocket watch is accompanied by a white-gold handcrafted stand on an oval-shaped base in white spangled marble.
It houses the caliber 17’’’ LEP PS manually wound movement with small seconds.
