Calatrava wristwatch with dial in wood marquetry.
This limited edition of two Calatrava wristwatches celebrates the majesty and beauty of the Alpine landscape that –together with watchmaking –has made Switzerland famous.
Patek Philippe chose for the purpose the highly refined technique of micromarquetry in wood: tiny pieces of veneer are cut out and assembled by the marquetry-maker before being fixed to a gold plate. Reference 5089G-059, with its “Roped Alpinists” climbing the snowy slopes, comprises 262 pieces (including 40 inlays) from 27 species of wood of different textures, veining and colors. Reference 5089G-060 and its “Lac d’Emosson”, after a painting by the French geologist and Alpine specialist Jacques Debelmas, contains 195 pieces (including 40 inlays) from 22 species of wood.
The white-gold case is endowed with a sapphire-crystal back protected by a hinged dust cover, affording a private view of the caliber 240 ultra-thin self-winding movement.
