An impression of Spain
This unique piece in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel draws inspiration from the architecture of Andalusia and pays tribute to Seville, Cadiz and Granada, the three main cities of this region of Spain.
Tracing the subtle geometric refinements of Andalusian ornamentation and Moorish architecture called for about 12.9 m of gold wire (~24.18 g). Coloring this decoration required a palette of 27 enamel shades, mainly transparent but with some semi-transparent or opaque. As the ultimate proof of his great prowess, the enameller then depicted Andalusia’s three capital cities in miniature painting on enamel. These tiny pictures, remarkable for their extreme finesse, portray Seville, Cadiz and Granada in 20 colors of miniature painting on enamel. The artisan also worked on the clock’s dome, whose spire takes the shape of an elegant jewelry applique. Each enameled plate underwent 14 firings at a temperature of approximately 770°C.
An hour circle in white lacquer presents applied Roman numerals in green lacquer, framing gilt leaf-shaped hands. Its center is adorned with a sunburst motif, shining through a coating of translucent green enamel.
This piece is powered by the caliber 17’’’ PEND mechanical movement rewound by an electric motor.
