The Monarch of the Glen

Majestic stag Drawing inspiration from the oil-on-canvas “The Monarch of the Glen” (1851) by the English painter Edwin Landseer (1802¬–1873), this unique piece in white gold pays tribute to the beauty of the Scottish countryside in which the stag reigns supreme. The artisan recreated this work in miniature painting on enamel using 14 colors, of which 6 were blended shades. His great mastery of his art enabled him to reproduce the misty atmosphere of the scene, the animal’s glossy coat and even the fine details of the blades of grass. He then protected his picture and intensified the colors according to the Geneva technique, with several coats of flux, a transparent enamel. This work required 21 firings at temperatures ranging from 800°C to 830°C. Using a palette of 5 colors of miniature painting on enamel, including 3 blended shades, the enameller reinterpreted the veiled effect of the mist in the scene on the dial. He then protected the scene and intensified its brilliance according to the Geneva technique, with several coats of flux, a transparent enamel. The enamelwork required 17 firings at temperatures ranging from 800°C to 830°C. Applied Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands, all in white gold, adorn the dial. A boxwood cabochon decorates the crown. This pocket watch is delivered with a stand in white gold recalling the stag’s antlers and adorned with rings made of boxwood. The stand rests on an oval base in boxwood, its lower portion set with a cabochon of the same species. The pocket watch also comes with a chain in white gold suspending an enameled medallion bearing a Calatrava cross. This piece houses the caliber 17’’’ LEP PS manually wound movement with small seconds.
