Self-winding

Set of two ladies’ minute-repeater wristwatches with dials in cloisonné enamel over hand-executed guilloché work.

These two limited editions in white gold and rose gold are adorned with pairs of swallows in flight created in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel.

The dial plate in white or yellow gold was hand-guilloched with a fine traditional basket-weave pattern that shines through its coating of transparent enamel in a splendid example of flinqué enameling. The enameler then created the detailed contours of the birds with outspread wings using from 35 to 50 cm of gold wire (0.21 to 0.29 g) measuring 0.07 x 0.4 mm in cross-section, before bringing the decoration to life with transparent, opaque and opalescent enamels in from 13 to 14 colors. Each dial required 8 firings at a temperature of approximately 750°C.

The case in white gold or rose gold houses the caliber R 27 selfwinding movement with minute repeater striking on two gongs. This movement, comprising 342 finely decorated parts, is visible through a sapphire-crystal case back. The two watches also come with an interchangeable back in solid white gold or rose gold.

The enameler

From the seventeenth century onwards, enamelers’ skills were much in demand to adorn watchcases and decorate dials. Today, it’s an endangered craft – but not at Patek Philippe.
