Pocket watch with wood marquetry, hand-engraving and miniature painting on enamel.
Superb in its tawny black-spotted coat, a leopard (also called a panther) keeps watch on the back of this unique piece uniting two rare and complex handcrafts.
The big cat’s stunningly lifelike portrait is a work of micromarquetry, comprising 632 pieces and inlays shaped from 21 species of wood. It stands out from a background of fine hand-engraving in low relief depicting a savannah, which required one hundred hours of work. The gold dial is decorated with miniature painting on enamel reminiscent of the leopard coat. It presents yellow-gold applied Breguet numerals, applied seconds ring and power-reserve segment and leaf-shaped hands also in yellow gold. A yellow sapphire cabochon (0.4 ct) embellishes the crown.
This pocket watch is accompanied by a yellow-gold handcrafted stand decorated with an acacia motif evoking the savannah, on a leopard jasper base set with a yellow sapphire cabochon (0.38 ct).
It houses the caliber 17’’’ LEP PS IRM manually wound movement with small seconds and power reserve indicator.
