Pocket watch with hand-engraving, cloisonné enamel and guilloché work under enamel.
This unique piece gives center stage to the torso and expressive face of a gorilla, depicted in one of the African forests in which it is an endangered species.
The animal is engraved in relief and took the master engraver 155 hours of work. Its background of foliage glows in cloisonné enamel finished with details in miniature painting on enamel – a decor that called for 71.7 cm of gold wire (about 2.8 g) measuring 0.07 x 0.35 mm or 0.07 x 0.4 mm in cross-section, 20 mostly transparent enamel colors and 13 firings at temperatures ranging from 780°C to 850°C. The white-gold dial is hand-guilloched with a leaf pattern and coated with transparent green enamel using the technique of flinqué enameling. It presents white-gold applied Breguet numerals and hand-engraved white-gold hands. An enameled bow and a crown set with a green tourmaline cabochon (0.27 ct) complete the decoration.
This pocket watch is accompanied by a white-gold handcrafted stand on an oval-shaped green nephrite jade base set with a green tourmaline cabochon (0.32 ct).
It houses the caliber 17’’’ LEP PS manually wound movement with small seconds.
