A Supreme Test of Ingenuity

Complications

Beyond the Time and Date

A 'complication' in watchmaking is anything a mechanical watch might do beyond telling the time. Patek Philippe upholds a tradition in complications that are useful in everyday situations, such as Annual Calendars, chronographs, dual time zones and World Time displays.

Sophisticated Simplicity

Calendar Watches

From simple or weekly calendars, to the famous Annual Calendar patented in 1996, our meticulously crafted calendar watches offer variety of sophisticated displays for the day, date and month. These useful and highly successful complications can be found on a wide range of the Manufacture’s models and designs.

Measuring More Than Time

Chronographs

The chronograph watch can display measurements other than time – speed of travel, distance to a location using light and sound, even a human pulse – without requiring any arithmetic. Our chronograph movements feature numerous innovations and patented optimizations that are embedded in the collection, offering a range of choices.

Around the Globe

World Time

Our World Time watches are renowned for their ability to simultaneously show the time in at least 24 cities, and as many time zones, spread around the world. Designed to navigate the complexities of global timekeeping, they combine intricate craftsmanship with advanced functions to cater to frequent global travellers.

Dual Time Zones

Travel Time

Another complication popular with travellers, our Travel Time watches are designed to rapidly and aesthetically differentiate the “home” time, and the “local” time. To that end, their dials display two hour-hands, each one indicating the time in a different time zone, and well as local and home day/night indication in apertures.

Following the Lunar Cycle

Moon Phases

The moon phase is a complication that depicts the evolution of the moon, as seen from Earth. The indication is generally shown in an aperture, but may sometimes be displayed by a hand. The moon phase display for our watches is designed to accurately reproduce the lunar cycle, requiring minimal adjustments over decades.

Regulating Time

Watches with Regulator-Style Displays

Our Annual Calendar watches with regulator-type displays are distinguished by their unique dial layout, where the hour, minute, and second hands are separated into individual subdials. While in line with traditional regulators, Patek Philippe’s design was inspired by a specific regulator clock which could be found in Mr Philippe Stern’s office.

Ref. 5235/50R-001 Annual Calendar Regulator features a regulator dial with three separate display zones for hours, minutes, and seconds.
