The world on one’s wrist This limited edition of ten watches in white gold depicting a map of the world evokes the beauty of the continental plates and the complexity of the geological structures that shape the ocean floor. The engraver first shaped the ocean depths by hand, which were then coated with translucent blue enamel, using the traditional technique of champlevé enameling. The enameller later rendered the effect of the mid-ocean ridges and the oceanic trenches, working with transparent enamels in 3 colors. This enamelwork required from 10 to 15 firings at a temperature of approximately 780°C. After these successive firings, the engraver added his finishing touch to produce his interpretation of the reliefs of the continental plates. The white-gold case is adorned with the famous Clous de Paris or hobnail pattern emblematic of the Patek Philippe style. A skeletonized hand in white gold, its shape inspired by the Southern Cross constellation, points to the hour, while the minute hand, also in white gold, presents a lozenge-shaped outline. The taurillon calfskin strap in golden brown is secured by a folding clasp in white gold adorned with a Calatrava cross. This watch houses a caliber R 27 HU self-winding movement combining a minute repeater and a World Time mechanism. The architecture and the painstaking finishing touches lavished on this Grand Complication movement may be admired through a sapphire crystal back, (interchangeable with a solid back in white gold).
