Puma

Pocket watch with wood marquetry and hand-engraving

995/150G-001

Puma

Mountain lion This unique piece in white gold depicts a puma poised to spring, having been surprised in its forest hideout. It pays homage to this large feline of North and South America. To reproduce on the case back this big cat quivering with life, the marquetry-maker cut out and assembled 276 tiny veneer parts and a remarkable 80 even smaller inlays, together representing a palette of 35 species of wood in different colors, textures and veining. The border of the case back, the bezel and the bow are hand-engraved with a geometric frieze, its motif presenting a stylized version of the big cat’s face. A dial in willow burl presents applied Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands, all in white gold. A spessartite cabochon (0.39 ct) embellishes the crown. This pocket watch is delivered with a stand in white gold representing thorny branches, coated in enamel and adorned with rings set with 112 brilliant-cut diamonds (0.7 ct). Its base in white marble, recalling the snow-covered mountain peaks inhabited by the puma, is set with a spessartite cabochon (0.41 ct). A white-gold chain suspending a medallion decorated with a pine cone in champlevé enamel also accompanies this pocket watch. This piece houses the caliber 17’’’ LEP PS manually wound movement with small seconds.
