A Story of Independence
The Patek Philippe Seal
The Patek Philippe Seal is a quality benchmark for our mechanical timepieces that further emphasizes our independence, as this emblem of horological excellence exceeds any standards of the Swiss watch industry. It is a dynamic quality hallmark open for future developments and technical progress, in line with the tradition of innovation which has been one of the most important guiding principles of our company for generations.
Four Key Dimensions
Backed by the company’s current President Thierry Stern, and by his father Philippe before him, the Patek Philippe Seal defines our internal standards for 65 quality criteria, split across four main categories.
Fine Workmanship
Our mission has remained the same since our creation: to develop and manufacture the finest timepieces in the world. This is why today, quality and fine workmanship remains one of our core values. As we are a fully integrated manufacture that not only produces movements, but also watch cases and other key exterior elements, the quality specifications set forth by the Patek Philipp Seal relate to the entire finished watch.
Precision
A Patek Philippe watch is first and foremost an instrument that measures time. Therefore, the Patek Philippe Seal is our unwavering commitment to owners of our timepieces that their rate accuracy is of the highest level in the industry. For movements, the Patek Philippe Seal specifies an extreme rate accuracy with a tolerance of no more than -1/+2 seconds per day.
Reliability
At Patek Philippe, our commitment to maintaining the long-term integrity and reliability of our timepieces is built upon the highest levels of watchmaking expertise. Our unprecedented quality standards and extremely strict quality controls every step of the way, from production to delivery, help us guarantee that a Patek Philippe watch is one meant to last for a lifetime. Or many.
Service
The commitment of Patek Philippe towards its customers is that all watches delivered since our foundation in 1839 will be serviced and restored. We believe our duty is to provide the highest standard of after-sales service, and we have translated this conviction into a key criterion of the Patek Philippe Seal. This ensures that any timepiece will receive the care and attention needed to function dependably for generations.
Origins of the Symbol
The double “P” symbolizing the Patek Philippe Seal was inspired by the initials engraved on the gold rotor of the first automatic Patek Philippe movement, caliber 12 600 AT, launched in 1952. The frame surrounding the double “P” is reminiscent of the shape of a classic pin buckle, originally designed by Henri Stern for the American market.
