Millefiori

A field of flowers This limited edition of five pieces in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel interprets the ancient technique of Millefiori glass. Made famous by the artisans of Murano, the technique consists of assembling glass canes of different colors, cutting these into sections and covering them with a transparent substance. The complex outlines of each flower called for about 14.5 m of gold wire (~27.5 g). To render the Mediterranean nuances of the decoration, the enameller worked with a palette of opaque, transparent and semi-transparent enamels in 10 colors. Finishing touches in 2 colors of miniature painting on enamel succeed in creating the illusion of the depth and luminosity of the glass. Each enameled plate underwent 10 firings at a temperature of 770°C. The hour circle in white mother-of-pearl is adorned with 12 baguette-cut hour markers in dark orange sapphire (1.92 cts) and leaf-shaped hands embellished with rhodium plating. Its center presents a sunburst motif shining through coats of translucent blue enamel. This piece is powered by the caliber 17’’’ PEND mechanical movement rewound by an electric motor.
