The iris and the monarch This limited edition of ten watches in rose gold expresses the chromatic beauty of an encounter between the blooms of the bearded iris and the airy lightness and grace of a monarch butterfly. Tracing the contours of the petals and the butterfly in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel called for about 55 cm of gold wire (~0.23 g). The enameller then displayed his outstanding mastery of the art of gradations and shading, working with a palette of transparent, opaque and semi-opaque enamels in 23 colors, and integrating tiny beads of white enamel on the butterfly’s wings, to create depth effects in the scene and an impression of volume in the iris flowers. Gold leaf, embedded in the enamel according to the technique of paillonné enameling, illuminates the butterfly, so that it stands out from the shadowy background. Each dial required from 20 to 30 firings at temperatures ranging from 780°C to 800°C. The bezel and prong buckle are set with gradations of precious gems comprising 38 baguette-cut sapphires shading from light pink to purple (~1.39 cts) and 29 baguette-cut brown spessartites (~0.84 ct). Dauphine-style hands in rose gold indicate the time. An alligator leather strap in shiny fuchsia pink takes up the color palette of the dial. This watch houses a caliber 240 ultra-thin self-winding movement, which may be admired through a sapphire crystal case back.
