The island of colors
This unique piece in yellow gold pays tribute to the Venetian island of Burano, known for its canals lined with brightly colored houses.
The case back was first adorned with hand-executed guilloché work in a pattern of waves, destined to remain visible beneath the translucent enamel. Next, the cloisonné enameling required about 2.8 m of gold wire (~1.75 g), as well as a considerable palette of transparent, opaque and semi-opaque enamels in 70 colors. The enameller then succeeded in rendering the sparkling, colorful reflections in the water using gold and silver leaf embedded beneath the enamel according to the technique of paillonné enameling. The enamelwork on the case back underwent approximately 15 firings at a temperature of 800°C.
The hand-executed line engraving decorating the border of the case back, the bezel and the bow drew inspiration from an ancient motif used in lacemaking, an art for which Burano is renowned. A red spinel cabochon (0.26 ct) embellishes the crown.
Hand-executed guilloché work was also used to produce the pattern of waves on the dial, shining through translucent blue enamel according to the technique of flinqué enameling. Applied Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands, all in yellow gold, indicate the time. Insertions of gold leaf were used to bring out subtle reflections in the appliques, according to the technique of paillonné enameling.
This pocket watch is accompanied by a stand in yellow gold presenting an arc adorned with a capstan knot and 8 rings, set with 108 spinel gems (1.15 cts) and 102 sapphires (1.18 cts). The arc rests on an oval base in blue quartz clad with glyptic work in rock crystal and set with a blue sapphire cabochon (0.4 ct). It also comes with a chain in yellow gold, suspending a medallion set with 18 sapphires (0.31 ct) and 18 spinels (0.3 ct).
This piece houses the caliber 17’’’ LEP PS manually wound movement with small seconds.
