A mountain lake
This unique piece in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel pays tribute to the “Stellisee”, one of the 5 lakes of the Zermatt region at an altitude of 2,537 meters. By honoring the beauty of this landscape, it calls our attention to the rarity and fragility of the Alpine regions and the importance of protecting them.
The contours of the lake, the fauna that inhabits it and the emblematic Mont Cervin on its shores called for about 5.8 m of gold wire (~11.6 g). To render the wealth of nuances in this Alpine scene, the artisan then introduced a palette of transparent, opalescent, opaque and semi-opaque enamels in 30 colors. His technical mastery of gradations and transparent effects enabled him to portray the reflections of the clouds in the mirror-like surface of the Stellisee. Each enameled plate required from 6 to 8 firings at temperatures ranging from 790°C to 850°C.
An hour circle in brown lacquer, adorned with gilt applied Arabic numerals, frames leaf-shaped hands, also in brown lacquer. The base of the clock is engraved by hand with the name “Stellisee” and the location “Canton du Valais, Suisse”.
This clock is powered by a calibre 17’’’ PEND mechanical movement rewound by an electric motor.
