Strong characters This limited edition of ten watches in white gold pays homage to a hunter-case pocket watch presented by Patek Philippe at the 1867 Paris Exposition. Endowed with three complications – a minute repeater, jumping seconds and a second time zone – it was, when unveiled, the most complicated timepiece ever produced by the Manufacture. The engraver began work by carving the words “Patek Philippe Genève” into the dial plate, using a typography inspired by the stylized letters engraved on the back of the historic pocket watch that served as his model. The enameller then filled the cavities in his decoration with enamels in two colors, one transparent and one opaque, applied in successive layers according to the technique of champlevé enameling. After firing the enamelwork, he called on his great skill in the art of engraving to structure the lettering, emphasizing the impression of volume in the characters. Each dial required from 4 to 5 firings at a temperature of approximately 760°C. The bezel is adorned with the famous Clous de Paris or hobnail pattern emblematic of the Manufacture’s style. Dauphine-style hands in white gold indicate the time. The grained calfskin strap in blue with light-blue stitching, secured by a prong buckle in white gold, reflects the color palette of the dial. This watch is endowed with a caliber 240 ultra-thin self-winding movement, which may be admired through a sapphire crystal back.
