Hunter of the seas
This unique piece in white gold portrays a Carcharodon carcharias, a Great White Shark, whose four to six meters in length make it one of the largest living fish and one of the ocean’s predominant macro-predators.
To reproduce this formidable carnivore so realistically, the marquetry-maker cut out and assembled 161 tiny veneer parts and 25 even smaller inlays, together spanning a palette of 18 wood species of different colors, textures and veining. The animal was then integrated into the enameled background, having been prepared beforehand using transparent and opaque enamels in 16 colors as well as 7 colors of miniature painting on enamel for the fine detail work on the deep-sea fauna that accompany the Great White. The enameling called for 10 firings at a temperature of 820°C.
The dial, which stands out by its subtle blue gradation evoking the ocean depths, required 3 colors of transparent enamel and 11 firings at a temperature of 820°C. Applied Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands, all in white gold, indicate the time. A topaz cabochon in “London Blue” (0,29 ct) embellishes the crown.
This pocket watch is delivered with a stand in white gold decorated with hand-engraved coral branches and set on a base in trolleite. It also comes with a white-gold chain suspending a medallion adorned with an enameled Calatrava Cross.
This piece houses the caliber 17’’’ LEP PS manually wound movement with small seconds.
