Firebird This limited edition of ten watches in rose gold gives center stage to the Leadbeater’s cockatoo, a species of parrot inhabiting southern Australia and known for its spectacular crest consisting of 16 long forward-facing incurved orangey-red feathers. The complex motif of the feathers in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel called for about 48 cm of gold wire (~0.2 g). To do full justice to the extraordinary vibrancy of the bird’s plumage the enameller then worked with a palette of semi-opaque, opaque and transparent enamels in 85 colors, before accentuating this splendid display of gradations with 14 colors of miniature painting on enamel, lending a particular brilliance to the bird. Each dial underwent about 10 firings at temperatures ranging from 780°C to 850°C. The bezel, lugs and prong buckle are set with a monochrome gradation of 113 sapphires, shading from yellow to orange (~1.13 cts) and 28 diamonds (~0.18 ct). Dauphine-style hands in rose gold indicate the time. An alligator leather strap in shiny coral takes up the color palette of the dial. This watch houses a caliber 240 ultra-thin self-winding movement, which may be admired through a sapphire crystal case back.
