Celebrating mother-of-pearl This unique piece in white gold showcases several of the Rare Handcrafts techniques and draws inspiration from the historic pocket watches set with pearls and diamonds. The engraver began his work by engraving the two backgrounds and the caseband according to the motifs comprising his design. The enameller then created the outlines of these volutes using about 0.52 m of gold wire (~0.52 g) before filling the cavities in the decoration with enamels in two colors, one transparent and the other opaque, applied in several coats. The enamelwork called for 10 firings at temperatures from 800°C to 805°C. The gem-setter then embellished this decor with gradations of 224 sapphires (1.47 cts) and 647 diamonds (2.35 cts) as well as with 162 half-pearls (8.19 cts) of different diameters. The dial, first adorned with hand-executed guilloché work snailed and sunburst patterns, was then hand-engraved before receiving successive coats of translucent blue enamel, according to the technique of flinqué enamelling. Hour markers set with round diamonds (0.25 ct) and leaf-shaped hands in white gold indicate the time. The bow was decorated with transparent blue enamel, and set with 58 diamonds (0.13 ct). This pocket watch is delivered with a stand in white gold beneath blue and black ceramic work, representing concentric ellipses and set with 362 diamonds (4.45 cts). The oval base is in black obsidian. The pocket watch also comes with a chain in white gold suspending a medallion set with 56 diamonds (0.21 ct) and containing a pearl (1.17 cts). This piece houses the caliber 17’’’ LEP PS IRM manually wound movement with power reserve indication and small seconds.
